Shake the Foundations of Our Society!

No, I do not think the perpetrators of Rape should be hanged, that would be the easy way out. I think they should be castrated and sentenced to 99 years of hard labour in Guantanamo Bay where even the most basic Human Rights are revoked for them.

What kind of a society are we living in? Is this the country we want to leave for our future generations, where women have to stay in a constant fear? I don't think so. Ask me what's the solution for our society. The answer does not lie in more police patrolling, it does not lie in fast track courts, it does not even lie in protest marches. Why? Because Rape is happening every day, by a random man, a husband, a male relative, a male neighbour, and like all the rapes that have happened before, the gang rape of this 23 year old woman too will be forgotten. We will protest for 1 day, maybe a week... the police will become active for a month and we will see PCR vans crawling all over the national capital.... our highly revered politicians will display their oratory skills for 2 days and then all of this will be forgotten. What happens to this girl after 6 months will not make it to the newspapers and she will be just another rape victim for us. While her life will be scared forever.

The biggest problem and the cause of rape is the morals on which our society stands. A male child is always wanted... someone to carry the name forward. The man in the family has dictatorial control over the house... a boy can come home at 2 in the night but a girl has a zillion restrictions imposed by the family. Any man brought up in an atmosphere like this is likely to assume that women are to be treated as commodities... to be raped at Will and Whim.

Blaming the government for no action is pointless, blaming the police for not being on their toes is baseless. If you must blame someone then blame the foundations of our society. Blame the culture we so proudly call ours. Blame the mindset of the people. And blame every single man who does not respect the womb which gave birth to him.

Hanging these men does not even come close to the punishment they deserve for their crime. Every single rapist should be castrated in public and made to live every single day of his life in torture- mental and physical. Make them regret their actions with every breath and let their breaths not be numbered. And most importantly lets not forget the victim. Let this incident not be like every other rape which is forgotten in a week because we got bored of it. May Justice Prevail!
